East Van Clinic

Situated in a large space within an aged industrial building in East Vancouver, this project brings texture and softness to a naturally rugged atmosphere. The existing nature of the sharp geometric space, which makes use of rough brick walls, concrete floors and ceilings is contrasted with the addition of soft textiles and round forms to create a bright and clean atmosphere. Our design incorporates the use of curves to achieve this disparity, framing niches within the existing space for privacy and functioning as natural wayfinding. The niches are furnished with functional elements that become playful additions, employing colour to engage the user, attracting them to their usage, and operating as both object and sculpture.
