Warfield Residence
The design for this project introduces an extension to an old wartime home located in Warfield, BC. As part of a 'down to the stud' renovation, the aim of our design was to maintain the overall scale and architectural language of the home to blend into the existing character of the neighbouring buildings while significantly improving the thermal performance of the home. The extension introduces an asymmetric form to contrast the symmetry of the classical structure, along with incorporating modern window sizing and highly efficient glazing systems to improve the overall experience of the home both inside and outside. Playful textures and colours clad the exterior of the extension, distinguishing the new architectural features from existing ones. Highly efficient wall and roof assemblies, consisting of insulated concrete forms (ICF) for the basement, semi-rigid exterior wall insulation for the structures above grade and a ventilated roof round out the performance characteristics of the design.
